We offer expert assessments around the North West of the UK, including Yorkshire, Humberside, Nottingham, Lancashire and Cumbria, led by a qualified Occupational Therapist who has clinically specialised in Moving and Handling. The assessments are tailored to the individual needs of service users and care staff. Our goal is to minimise injury risk, Maximise independence, and ensure your service meets CQC standards - while improving comfort, dignity, and staff confidence.
Why Safe Moving and Handling Matters
Moving and Handling can be one of the most risky tasks a carer does for their client. therefore we need to ensure that the equipment and the techniques used are safe for client and carer. Incorrect moving and handling can lead to injuries for both the individual being supported and the staff involved. This can result in pain, reduced mobility, increased care costs, and legal consequences.
Our Moving and Handling Assessments are designed to:
● Prevent injury and strain
● Promote service user dignity and independence
● Ensure compliance with the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992
● Identify and recommend suitable equipment
● Empower staff with safer working techniques
Whether you’re a care home, domiciliary care provider, or a private client, our assessments help create safer environments and better outcomes for everyone involved. Although we support Care providers in the North West of England, arrangements can be made to travel across the UK
Services We Offer
We offer a range of Moving and Handling services tailored to meet individual and organisational needs:
-
Moving and handling and specialist seating are a core part of our practice and one of our specialist services. This service is suited to individual service users themselves as well as healthcare providers, including care homes, supported living services, and community teams, who require specialist occupational therapy input.
We assess how a person moves, transfers, and is assisted during everyday activities such as getting in and out of bed, transferring to a chair or toilet, repositioning, and accessing bathing facilities. This includes considering strength, balance, tone, fatigue, pain, posture, and confidence, alongside the environment in which care is provided. Where appropriate, tasks are observed in real situations to ensure recommendations are practical, safe, and sustainable.
Specialist seating assessments focus on posture, pressure management, comfort, and functional engagement. We assess how seating supports the individual during daily activities, looking at alignment, stability, pressure risk, endurance, and the impact seating has on independence and participation. Recommendations are based on both current needs and likely future changes, helping to avoid unsuitable or short lived solutions.
Following assessment, we provide clear, clinically reasoned recommendations. This may include advice on manual handling techniques, hoisting, slings, transfer aids, specialist seating systems, and environmental setup. We also support with equipment specification, sourcing, trials where appropriate, and liaison with suppliers to ensure the right solution is in place.
We understand that moving and handling needs and seating requirements often change over time. Ongoing review and adjustment are available to ensure plans remain safe, effective, and appropriate as health, function, or care arrangements evolve.
Starting from £299, this service supports the individual's safety, comfort, independence, and dignity, while reducing risk and ensuring consistent, confident care for families, carers, and professional teams.
-
Our care home and domiciliary care assessments provide on-site occupational therapy input to support safe, person-centred care across single or multiple service users. These assessments focus on both the individual and the wider care environment, ensuring that day-to-day practice, equipment, and support arrangements are appropriate, safe, and sustainable.
We conduct on-site visits to assess service users in their care settings, observing how care is delivered during everyday activities such as transfers, personal care, mobility, seating, and mealtimes. This allows us to evaluate how well current practices support dignity, independence, and comfort, and to identify any risks to the service user or care staff.
Alongside individual assessments, we review the care environment, including layout, space, equipment provision, and storage, to ensure it supports safe moving and handling and effective care delivery. We also consider consistency of practice across staff teams and how care plans are being implemented in practice.
Our recommendations are client-centred and grounded in current safety guidance and legal standards, including manual handling principles, health and safety legislation, and duty-of-care requirements. This may include guidance on appropriate equipment, seating, moving and handling techniques, environmental adjustments, or changes to care routines.
Following the assessment, a clear written report is provided outlining findings, risks, and practical recommendations. This can support care planning, staff training, audits, and quality improvement, helping providers demonstrate safe practice, reduce incidents, and meet regulatory expectations.
Starting from £299, this service is suitable for care homes and domiciliary care providers seeking specialist occupational therapy input to support complex needs, improve safety, and strengthen person-centred care across their service.
-
Our equipment review service focuses on ensuring that existing equipment remains safe, suitable, and effective as a person’s needs change over time. Equipment that was once appropriate can become unsuitable due to changes in mobility, strength, posture, cognition, or care arrangements, and regular review is essential to prevent discomfort, risk, or reduced independence.
We assess how current equipment is being used in everyday situations, considering factors such as fit, positioning, ease of use, comfort, and safety. This may include reviewing mobility aids, bathing equipment, toileting equipment, specialist seating, beds, or moving and handling equipment. Where appropriate, use of the equipment is observed to identify any issues with technique, setup, or compatibility with the environment.
Following the review, clear and practical advice is provided. This may include recommendations for adjustments, upgrades, or alternative equipment better suited to current and anticipated needs. We also consider future progression, helping to avoid repeated changes or inappropriate provision.
A clear written report is provided outlining findings and recommendations, with support available for equipment sourcing, liaison with suppliers, and follow up review where required. The aim is to ensure equipment continues to support safety, comfort, and independence, while reducing risk for both the individual and those supporting them.
-
